CauseNot enough licenses purchased for the number of client connections. A client can have more than one connection and if so each Initiator will count as a client license. Also if there are clients not being used, then by removing these unused clients from the VTL console could free up the client license for new client connections. Solution1. Contact the local Oracle Sales Representative to purchase an option.
FAQ
1. How is a VTL licensed for clients?
SAN clients are licensed by the number of connections and not by the number of actual SAN clients. So with the base of 16 SAN Clients, if any one of the clients has two connection to VTL (which most do for redundancy), then that takes 2 SAN client licenses. If all clients have two connections, only 8 clients can be configured. 2. Is there a limit to the number of SAN clients that can be created on the VTL? Is there any way to overcome this limitation – like changing any configuration file on the VTL? The SAN clients are controlled by license keys. If more licenses are required in addition to the base/default of 16 clients, the local Oracle Sales Representative needs to order additional licenses for adding more SAN clients to the VTL configuration (see KM 1343023.1). The max SAN clients is 256, although there are performance implications when going over approx 50 (this number varies on the configuration, but as a general rule Oracle recommends not going over 50).
