Applies to:

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X2-2 Hardware - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 1.0.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Each Exalogic machine (eighth/quarter/half/full) rack has 2 Power Distribution Units (PDU) supplies in each component (InfiniBand Switch/Gateway, Compute Node and Storage head) actively balance power - if one fails, or is connected to a PDU that fails, the other takes over (2N redundancy, continuous availability). Exalogic Power Distribution Units in each Exalogic rack configuration is redundant. For complete redundancy, each PDU should be wired to a different AC source.

One of the Power Distribution Units (PDU) seems to be non-responsive on Exalogic Rack Machine. The firmware version of Exalogic machine PDU is 1.0.4. Following symptoms were observers during the issue.

  • Power Distribution Units LCD panel was dead (i.e. blank)
  • Power Distribution Units HTTP interface become non-responsive for a long period of time.
  • Power Distribution Units interface still responds to PING packets even though the HTTP interface was slow/non-responding.

The issue was not affecting power supply to Exalogic Rack Machines, but merely affecting the ability to monitor current draw through the PDU.

Cause

The Power Distribution Units (PDU) metering unit might have trouble.

Solution

Please reset the PDU Metering Unit. This can be done without any system down for any servers. In other words, to reset the PDU Metering Unit does not affect to power distribution to the servers.

1. Press and hold the reset button until you see a five-second countdown displayed on the LCD screen, as shown in the following PDU Metering Unit LCD Screen and Reset Button. You must press the reset button for 20 seconds before the five-second countdown begins:

2. During the five-second countdown, release the reset button and then tap the button again to force the metering unit to reset.

Please review PDU Documentation (section "Reset the PDU Metering Unit") , which describes the instructions for resetting the PDU Metering Unit: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19657-01/E23956-01/z40002681016589.html

If not recovered after resetting the PDU, please provide the PDU part number and contact Oracle Customer Support.
