Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

message on host such as the following.

Date&Time hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /scsi_vhci/ssd@g000b080000003975 (ssd52):
Date&Time hostname Error for Command: mode_sense(10)          Error Level: Retryable
Date&Time hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice]         Requested Block: 0                         Error Block: 0
Date&Time hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice]         Vendor: Pillar                             Serial Number:
Date&Time hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice]         Sense Key: Unit_Attention
Date&Time hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice]         ASC: 0x3f (inquiry data has changed), ASCQ: 0x3, FRU: 0x0

Note: The "Vendor, Sense Key and ASC/ASCQ" values need to match the above to apply.

Note: the "Command" may be different

The above symptom indicates that a SCSI request from the host to the array was returned with "Unit Attention", the ASC value indicates that something has changed on the storage.

This is an inband mechanism for the Axiom to inform the host of a change.

As the Error Level is "Retryable" Solaris will simply retry the command and no other symptoms are likely to be observed.

Changes

Network IP address setting.

Cause

Changing the Axiom management network IP address will cause the Axiom to return the mentioned Unit Attention on a subsequenct SCSI command from a connected host.

Solution

None required. The messages on the host are a consequence of the configuration changes on the arrary. As the host retries the command there is no impact.
