Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1381938.1 : SL8500 - Loss of PDU-1 Will Cause Library to Become Inoperative
In this Document
Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version: Not ApplicableInformation in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsSL8500 becomes inoperativeTypical 3Com switch failure symptoms: No drive communications No mounts or dismounts No drives available after IML No Op Panel connectivity ChangesNew installation of library.Power problem in library. CauseIf the subsystem is incorrectly configured, loss of PDU1 will cause the SL8500 to become inoperative.SolutionMachines connected to dual AC power, "2N", need to be configured like the picture shown on the right. Failure to configure this correctly in a 2N machine removes power redundancy and will cause the entire SL8500 to become inoperative in the event of a PDU1 failure or power down.Note: Refer to the attached file to reference pictures. Note: The 3Com ethernet switch (260800489) has been replaced by the PUE card (419951602 or 7025052) in new build machines and is now supplied as a spares replacement for a failed 3Com switch. When replacing a 3Com switch with a PUE card in 2N power configurations, the AC Transfer switch is removed and not used. Remember to connect the power cables from the PUE card to the 2 outer AC sockets, do not use the center connection. When a PUE is installed in an accessory rack of a 2N machine, one connection should go to bay 1 or 3 and the other should go to bay 2 or 4.
