7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks)

Symptoms

When booting a system the last thing to see is:

 "Loading GRUB stage 2 ......."

Cause

The reason for the observed behavior is most likely a monitor directly connected to the appliance head of the system instead of using the system console on service processor.

On that connection the output is redirected to the ILOM/SP after

Loading GRUB stage 2.......

Solution

The Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System is designed to redirect the system console output to the ILOM console. To verify that the system is booting and can be reached via network it is best to wait a couple of minutes and see if the system responds to a ping. If the system responds it has booted and you are fine.

To connect to the system console you need to use one of the following methods, the ILOM java redirection or a connected monitor will not work.

  • Connect directly to the serial port of ILOM/SP, and do "start /SP/console"
  • Connect directly to network port of ILOM/SP, and do "start /SP/console"

See the install poster for your system model or verify the installation or maintenance documentation.
