Symptoms

After installing Solaris 10 kernel patch 127127-11, the console and system log file /var/adm/messages may show spurious interrupt messages similar to:
Warning: Invalid Vector Intr: Number 0x78c, Pil 0x0

Changes

On affected systems, installing  Kernel Patch 127127-11 (S10U5) is a pre-requisite.

Cause

The Solaris 10 backport of:

Bug id: 6402328, "Add multi-pil and unlimited softint support for SPARC"

did not include a TOMATILLO_VER_23 workaround which was there
originally. This missing code causes spurious interrupt warnings to be printed.

Bug id: 6654959, "found "WARNING: invalid vector intr" on V440", was filed against this omission.

The problem with this bug is that it seems to imply that only V440:s are vulnerable to this issue, when in fact any system with Tomatillo 2.3 ASIC is affected.

The list of affected systems may include, but are not limited to:

Sun Fire V210
Sun Fire V240
Sun Fire V250
Sun Fire V440

Netra 210
Netra 240
Netra 440

Sun Blade 1500
Sun Blade 2500

The messages are harmless, and does not cause any operational issues, other than cluttering up the console and system log.

Solution

There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution below.

This issue is addressed in the following releases:

SPARC Platform
* Solaris 10 with patch 139555-08 or later
