Created from <SR 3-4510395921>

Applies to:

Exadata Database Machine X2-8 - Version Not Applicable and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

During boot the configuration validation script "CheckHWnFWProfile" reports the warning message:

[WARNING] The hardware and firmware are not supported. See details below

[NEMFirmwareNEMCount]
Requires:
NEM0-5.7.0.0 NEM1-5.7.0.0 2
Found:
NEM0-5.7.0.0 NEM1-5.3.3.2 2

In the output above, NEM1 was replaced and has a lower 5.3.3 firmware than the required 5.7.0.

Changes

The warning happens after replacing the NEM with a lower level firmware version.

Cause

The NEM requires a newer firmware than the one that the FRU shipped with.

Solution

This will require the DB node to have an outage while the firmware is updated.  Execute the steps as root user.

1. Stop Grid Infrastructure

<crs_home>/bin/crsctl stop crs

2. Obtain the NEM firmware 5.7.0 pkg file from My Oracle Support patch 12313435 (X4800 SW1.2.1)

3. Access the X4800's ILOM via the web browser or ssh, and follow the instructions here to update the NEM firmware manually:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19140-01/html/821-0281/gkkds.html#scrolltoc

ILOM's Remote host control feature can be used to force the system to boot into BIOS on the next power up, rather than watching and hitting F2 at the right time.

Ignore the notes in the instructions referring to Firmware 5.3.3.4, as these were written for the prior firmware update. The correct and current firmware should be 5.7.0.0.
