----

Customer has 2 new HP LTO5 drives installed to their SL500 by Partner. The library firmware was upgraded to 1409 from 1373 but  the drives are still showing  as incompatible and unknown. Doing a drive getconfig on the 2 new drives and it reported there is an HP variant drive in a non HP library.  The drive tray has a HP part number.

Changes

Added HP LTO5 drives to library.

Cause

Wrong type of drives installed.

Solution

Customer is using HP drives for an HP branded SL500 which is much different then the Oracle StorageTek SL500.
Most likely the Partner put in HP drives with HP Firmware instead of STK/Oracle compatible Firmware. Therefore, those drives are not serviceable.

These drives are not maintainable by Oracle.  They will not work in Oracle library .... they were built for HP.

The drives cannot be upgraded with Oracle firmware as there is a hook to prevent this from occurring by HP.  The customer or Partner needs to acquire the proper drives.
