Symptoms

Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) reports the following alarm code xx.75.42:

Description: Tray.xx.Drive.yy is at revision "B" baseline version is "A"

where B is higher than A.

Example:

Alarm ID   : alarm4
Description: Tray.00.Drive.05 is at revision "0706" baseline version is "0605"

Severity   : Major
Element    : ---hidden---
GridCode   : 57.75.42
Date       : 2011-07-11 12:37:12

Cause

This alarm means that the drive has a firmware (FW) which is at a different level than the one bundled with the CAM baseline.

This alarm usually happens when the drive FW is below the CAM baseline. However, when we replace a drive, its replacement may arrive with the latest FW, hence once it is installed in the array, CAM will detect that the FW on this new drive (B) is at a different level than its baseline (A). Therefore it will raise this alarm where the B is actually higher than A.

Note: Drive FW cannot be downgraded.

Solution

As from CAM 6.6 and higher, CAM no longer reports this alarm if a drive has a higher FW than the one bundled with the baseline.
Therefore there are two different solutions:

Solution 1:

Upgrade to the latest release of CAM, refer to <Document 1296274.1> How to Download Common Array Manager (CAM) Software and Patches.

Solution 2:

Ignore this alarm. Provided that the drive FW revision is higher than the CAM baseline.
