Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version 4 to 5C [Release 4.0 to 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer receives a message on their system, FSC3E41 or FSC3E42 Conditional Capacity Low Threshold Reached.  This will be in the form of a SIM message.

Cause

FSC 3E41 and FSC 3E42 are reported at the detection of only 5% or 2.5%, respectively, collected free space remaining on the subsystem.

Solution

Monitor subsystem with the following commands to verify if the DBU is being worked down or needs attention:

VT D VTSS or Q VTSS(vtssname) DET - Monitor DBU%
VT D A DET - Verify there are active migrates for the VSM
VT D Q DET - Verify if there are any queued processes that may be hanging up migrates for the VSM
VT D LOCK - Verify if there are any locked processes
VT D RTD - Verify the RTDs are OK

It may be necessary to pause the initiators to keep jobs from requesting the VTDs on the VSM until the VSM has had time to migrate data.

The above VTCS commands require a command prefix, its usually a . (dot) example .VT D VTSS.
The command prefix can be found in the HSC Libgen.
