Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version: 4 to 5C - Release: 4.0 to 5.0
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On VSM4s some customers have had issues with poor performance with certain job types (long chain types, i.e SyncSort, DB2, Backups VS short chain jobs).

Cause

Certain long chain jobs tie up resources causing delays in processing.

Solution

Engineering has,  in development, new microcode that introduces a new feature to allow the customer to set up different CCW Chain breaking algorithms.  Code level is D/H02.14.05.00

See below screen shots for the DOP screen views:

The first screen shot below is the new selection on the Configuration and Status screen. If you are logged in (CSE or Customer) and hover on the selection then click you get the second screen shot.

On the second screen shot, selecting a new setting brings up the SUBMIT button. This new chain break setting is immediate. Nothing else to do.

The 3rd screen shot is a revised description of each setting that will be in the next drop of D/H02.14.06.00 code.
