Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Policy Routes Disabled after reboot of 2.8x SL3000 or 6.0x SL8500 Codes.
Due to a boot time issue in 2.8x and 6.0x library microcodes, Policy Routes will be disabled after the boot.
Possible lost communication or Dual TCP/IP functionality.
Error 3028 stating "Failed modifying policy rules".
Result code 3028
RC3028

Cause

Firmware issue.

All levels of microcode from 2.81 for the SL3000 and from 4.7x for the SL8500 through all current codes levels (3.6x/7.70) have this problem.

Solution

After every reboot or power cycle of a library with these code levels, the Policy Routes must be re-enabled from the CLI.  When attempting to enable the policy routes for either Ports 2A or 2B, you will receive an error #3028 stating "Failed modifying policy rules".

In fact, the routes do enable even though the message states otherwise. You can also disable the routes first and then re-enable them and you should not receive the error messages when they are enabled.

Note:

RE Policy Route Behavior -In addition to disabling Policy routes during a reboot as previously advised,  when an RE machine fails over, the policy routes will also be disabled. This requires enabling the policy routes after both a routine reboot or an RE switch occurs. This will be resolved in 8.x SL8500 code and 4.x SL3000 code.

See the following commands and responses that are expected:

SL8500> network ip policy enable dev 2B
