Symptoms

On the VTL Console, when selecting Physical Resources>Storage Devices>Fibre Channel Devices, one or more LUNs (Volumes) has a red symbol to the left of the LUN name, indicating "Offline".

Within NetBackup backup application, the tapes are frozen.

According to the ipstor.dat.cache file, it indicates two out of four paths for affected LUN's are offlined, which including the prefer path. Therefore, the console displays a red dot for this LUN.

Solution

Run a rescan for new devices from the VTL Console:
- Right click on "Physical Resources" and select rescan.

Note: It's recommended to do the rescan during low backup activity as to not impact/interrupt backups.
