Symptoms

BUI or aksh cli operation might fail with the following error

Unanticipated error or software defect
Native message: <function-name> attempted to return <new-max> bytes, exceeding maximum of <current-max> bytes

Cause

This is due to one of the bugs listed below, to identify the relevant bug id match the function-name in the error message.

<SUNBUG: 6887234>  routing.list() Fixed in 2010.Q1
<SUNBUG: 6968819>  dataset.read() Pending release in 2010.Q3
<SUNBUG: 6959100>  iscsit.listInitiators() Fix is being planned

Solution

Upgrade the software if your bug status is fixed released. Otherwise you need to file a  support Service Request (SR) for this issue.

Internal only:
Workaround:
Check if you can reduce content that was being read and the error occurred, or ..
Increase the akd/rpc_rmax size value. `svccfg -s akd setprop akd/rpc_rmax = '<value>'` but has performance implications.
If customer is hitting a new function and is not in the above list, file a RPE CR and update this KA.
