  • Resilvering runs for a very long time.
  • Resilvering reports 100% progress, but does not complete.
  • Scrub/resilver causes systemic slowdown.

Cause

Cause:  Several related CRs around resilvering performance and status reporting.

Bugs include:

  <SUNBUG: 6743992> - scrub/resilver causes systemic slowdown
  <SUNBUG: 6865084> - When resilver was in progress BUI/CLI became inaccessible
  <SUNBUG: 6866277> - Resilver takes longer time when appliance has faulted drive
  <SUNBUG: 6880105> - disk resilver hangs
  <SUNBUG: 6891824> - 7410 NAS head "continually resilvering" following HDD replacement
  <SUNBUG: 6898125> - very poor write performance during resilvering process

Solution

Steps to follow:

Upgrade system software to 2010.Q1 or later. Enhancements to resilvering performance were included in this version.

If still unsuccessful in completing resilver, pause any scheduled replication or snapshot jobs.  After the "100%" mark of the resilver progress, the system is exclusively working on the snapshots.

Creating additional snapshots, either directly or via replication, will delay the completion of the resilver.
