SymptomsThe error message "CAP is already reserved in partition 999 by host 99" is displayed even though the tape library has not been partitioned. This error is logged during ACSLS start up or during a VARY CAP operation. ChangesThis problem has been reported to occur right after a new tape library installation or a tape library microcode upgrade.CauseThe CAP has been locked (reserved) by the library after system configuration or microcode upgrade.SolutionThis document addresses the ACSLS CAP reservation error logged in acsss_event.log during a VARY operation:2010-01-20 15:46:08 VARY[51852]: 2138 E cl_is_cap_resv.c Unknown 109 cl_is_cap_resv: CAP x,x,x is already reserved in partition 999 by host 99. This problem only occurs when the tape library is an SL8500 or an SL3000. -Follow these steps to reset the CAP reservation: 1. Login as Service on the SL console (SLC). 2. Select Tools > Diagnostics 3. To verify if the CAP is empty, audit the CAP 4. Expand CAP folder and select desired CAP 5. CAP should show as "Locked" 6. Change right hand drop box to "False" 7. Click Apply 8. Unlock the CAP on the SLC 9. Push flashing CAP button 10. Open CAP and remove carts, if any. 11. Push CAP button on CAP again to close the CAP door. 12. CAP goes into an unreserved state not assigned to a partition. 13. Vary CAP offline and then online from the SLC. 14. From the ACSLS cmd_proc, issue "vary CAP x,x,x online" This will reserve the CAP for the library's sole partition. If the problem still exists after performing the steps above, please open a service request in My Oracle Support. Run the ACSLS get_diags script and attach the output tarfile to the service request ticket.
