Symptoms

Drive will not power on
Power up issue
Drive not functional
The drives will not power on even when you try to configure them from the RMI (Configuration/Drive select Power ON).  If the drive(s) is the wrong OEM personality it will not power on in the Sun SL24 or SL48 library.

Cause

There was an issue with the wrong personality being loaded in the factory for the SL24 Autoloader and SL48 Libraries.

Solution

Resolution
This problem is resolved with special personality firmware for the library.

The effected tape drive S/N's are:
LTO-2 tape drives:  Serial number range HU10729xxx to HU10747xxx
LTO-3 tape drives:  Serial number range HU10703xxx to HU10818xxx
LTO-4 tape drives:  Serial number range HU1732xxxx to HU1817xxxx

If the new/replacement drive is the master (usually drive 1) then the special personality firmware will fix the drive on reboot after the firmware is downloaded to the library.

If the tape drive is not the master then it will be necessary to power on the drive(s) individually via the Remote Management Interface.
(Chapter 4, Operating the Autoloader or Library - Operating the Autoloader or Library)

Powering on the tape drive will fix the drives personality to the correct Sun configuration and make the drive ready and available.

The code is acquired from Tape Hardware Support only.  A case with must be opened to the Tape Hardware Group requesting the correct code depending on product.

This is special library firmware that for the SL24 and SL48:

SUN_SL48_Fa70.frm -> Sun SL48 library
SUN_SL08_Ba51.frm -> OEM 1U autoloader
SUN_SL24_Da41.frm -> OEM 2U autoloader
SUN_SL48_Fa71.frm -> OEM 4U library
SUN_SL24_Da40.frm -> Sun SL48
