Symptoms

The Sun Fire X4450 boot may hang after upgrading to BIOS 3B12.
This BIOS was delivered by Tools and Drivers DVD 1.1a.
A small number of Sun Fire X4450s are missing the Product Part Number in the Field Replaceable Unit data (FRU). If the BIOS is upgraded to 3B12, a system with incorrectly populated data may hang during boot.
This has resulted in unnecessary replacements of system boards.

Cause

This issue is caused by <SunBug: 6669656> which describes how a small number of Sun Fire X4450's have unpopulated Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) information in the PROM of the system board.

Solution

The fix for this issue is delivered in BIOS 3B16 or later.

The latest BIOS and firmware is available for download from the following link 18843041
This is BIOS 3B69 from 9th March 2011.
