Symptoms

Failover not completing successfully
NBU cannot automatically rediscover virtual devices after failover

Cause

VTL failover was designed to use WWPNs moving (spoofed) between nodes for failover, but AIX uses acids (SCSI ids) for the robotics and the acids change when a data path is moved to another switch port.  This port swap happens when failover occurs causing a manual reconfigure of the devices to be necessary.

Solution

Resolution
Fix provided in VTL Plus Build 1323 and above.  Refer to VTL Release Notes, section "Usage Notes for High Availability for AIX with Brocade & McData Switches".

VTL Release Notes can be found at:
VTL+ 2.0
