Symptoms

  • TCoD is getting disabled
  • Virtual tapes are not filling to capacity
  • VTL is not reclaiming space
  • Backup is reaching EOT marker before maximum capacity reached

Changes

Disk cache was previously filled to capacity, but then reclaimed to free up space.

Cause

When a virtual tape expansion fails due to an out of space condition, TCoD is automatically disabled and the last expansion point becomes the maximum tape capacity.

Solution

Virtual tape(s) that have had TCoD disabled, must be deleted and re-created to enable TCoD. There are no plans to change this.

The "vtlcheck" utility can be used to determine how many virtual tapes have had the TCoD disabled.  Refer to document "Reference" section below which is an Internal document.  If you do not have access to this document, please contact VTL support.
