Symptoms

Unable to enter cartridge into the cap.
New tape media cannot be entered into the library.
Entering new cleaning cartridges fails with message SLS2266E.

SLS2266E Cartridge volser in CAP cell AA:LL:CC:RR:CC has an invalid media label and cannot be entered

Cause

The following are known causes of the problem:

  1. Missing external volser label and/or media label.
  2. Defective or incorrectly placed volser or media label.
  3. Library microcode is not at the correct level to recognize the media label.
  4. Library microcode is correct but HSC/ELS, etc, is missing required maintenance.

Solution

Resolution to this problem depends on what is causing the problem.

  1. Verify that the cartridges in question contain an external volser label and media label.
  2. Verify that the external labels are readable, on straight and do not have a corner sticking up.
    • If a problem is discovered with the label, replace the label.
  3. Check the media label on the cartridges and verify that the library supports that media type.
  4. If newer devices and/or media, verify that any applicable HSC maintenance is applied.
