Solution

Resolution
Steps to resolve Slow or Bad Performance:

Step 1. Has the suspect tape exhibited similar problems on another drive?     NO - GO TO STEP 3

Step 2. Is tape available for examination at Oracle/STK headquarters?          NO - GO TO STEP 9

If yes, GO TO STEP 5.

Step 3. Run Write/Read diagnostics using "FDE Run Test" through VOP on suspect transport with two known good tapes.

NOTE: VOP Release 1.0.7 and T10000 1.31.103 or higher is needed to support diagnostics.

Step 4. Did the diagnostic run successfully?                                                 NO - GO TO STEP 7

(Success = 1 tape passes)

Step 5. Open up Service Request and provide all documents/event logs/syslogs to Oracle Tape Hardware Support for analysis and document in the problem case.  Instructions will be provided if tape must be returned.

Step 6. GO TO STEP 12.

Step 7. Replace drive. Put "Fails W/R diagnostic test" on Drive Return Form and in Problem Case.

Step 10. Will the customer allow us to run tests with this tape in their environment? NO - GO TO STEP 12

Step 11. Run Write/Read diagnostics using "FDE Run Test" through VOP. Send all documents, etc to Oracle/STK headquarters for analysis and document in the problem case.

NOTE: VOP Release 1.0.7 and T10000 1.31.103 or higher is needed to support diagnostics.
