Some customers are reporting problems when using diagnostic and cleaning tapes mainly on DLT drives. The problem seems to be from the placement of the incorrect label for these cartridges in relation to the drives they have installed. These libraries are packaged with a sheet of labels for the diagnostic and cleaning cartridges. Included on this is a label for each type of drive that could be installed into these libraries. This is because at the time of manufacture they do not know what drives are to be installed into the library. The sheets are only segregated by the drive type, either DLT or LTO. No other breakdown is included on the sheet indicating the specific drive a label is to be used on except small letter designation on the label. This has especially caused confusion on the DLT drives. The letter designation for the DLT drives are: For the diagnostic tape C = DLT7000/8000 D = DLT1 (Benchmark) S = SDLT DLT Cleaning tapes are either C or S. The DLT7000/8000 use the same cleaning tape, indicated by the C. The DLT1 drive use their own special type (fabric) cleaning tape, but use the same label (C) for the library. The S designator being for the SDLT. For the LTO drives: diagnostic tapes L1 = LTO Gen1 L2 = LTO Gen2 LU = LTO 10GB Cartridge
For cleaning tapes for LTO, a universal cleaning cartridge should be used. The cleaning labels all show CU and can be used in all LTO drives if they are of the universal type.
