Symptoms

  • Slow performance on vaulting jobs
  • Backup jobs higher data rate
  • Backups running at acceptable data rates
  • Very low data rates on vault job

Cause

Insufficient number of buffers and  incorrect data block size for optimum performance on VTL.

Solution

Increase NetBackup buffers:
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS = 32
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS = 262144

Refer to Symantec Veritas NetBackup Users Guide for details.
