Symptoms

The 3E24 error is from the library being told to move a tape from the drive when the drive is loaded and ready and not showing any signs over the TTI that it is unloading.
FSC3E24
Configuration problems

Cause

This error is usually only seen for one of two reasons:
1. The application is not unloading the drive when the drive operations are done with the tape.

2. A configuration problem where there is a mismatch between the library configuration of the drive elements and the applications.

Solution

Steps to Follow
A simple test for a configuration error is to be sure a mount and dismount of each drive, ONE drive at a time, works and that the drive gets unloaded from the host properly.
1. If there is a mismatch in the configuration, the drive will not come ready to the host because the host is really waiting for an empty drive to come ready. This is not so easy to detect when all drives are loaded and backups running!

2. If the unload has been issued to a drive and the library is told to move this tape, but the drive is still unloading, the library will wait for this drive as long as the drive reports in status that it is rewinding or unloading!
