Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1012344.1 : PRTDIAG output incorrect after reseating power supplies.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217032 Symptoms After reseating PS1 on Sun Fire[TM] V1280 running Solaris[TM] 9, voltage sensors on PS1 no longer appear in prtdiag output. << Before reseating PS1 (snip from explorer data) >> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Voltage sensors: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Location Sensor Voltage Lo LoWarn HiWarn Hi Status ------------------------------------------------------------------------ : PS0 v_input0 - - - - - okay PS0 v_output0 - - - - - okay PS1 v_input0 - - - - - okay PS1 v_output0 - - - - - okay PS2 v_input0 - - - - - failed PS2 v_output0 - - - - - failed PS3 v_input0 - - - - - okay PS3 v_output0 - - - - - okay : << After reseating PS1 (snip from explorer data)>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Voltage sensors: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Location Sensor Voltage Lo LoWarn HiWarn Hi Status ------------------------------------------------------------------------ : PS0 v_input0 - - - - - okay PS0 v_output0 - - - - - okay PS3 v_input0 - - - - - okay PS3 v_output0 - - - - - okay PS2 v_input0 - - - - - failed PS2 v_output0 - - - - - failed : Moreover, if PS2 is subsequently reseated, PS2 voltage sensors no longer appear, while PS1's sensors reappear. Resolution It appears that the the Platform Information and Control Library daemon (picld) does not receive updates from the System Controller when the power supplies are reseated. To resolve this issue, install prtdiag Patch ID: 113447-25 or higher. Relief/Workaround The workaround is to restart picld. - /etc/init.d/picld stop - /etc/init.d/picld start
After restarting, picld will take up to 10 minutes to re-synchronize with the hardware. Then, the power supplies voltage sensors appear in the prtdiag output.
