Symptoms

The Sun Fire[TM] V40z will not PXE boot Windows 2000 with LSI MegaRaid SCSI 320-4x adapter installed.

With card installed, you will see a message similar to the following on the console shortly after pressing <F12> to select network boot:  Unable to aquire DHCP address . With the card removed, you will not see this message and PXE boot will proceed as normal.

Changes

Adding the LSI MegaRaid SCSI 320-4x causes the PXE network boot to fail.

Cause

 Card firmware lower than H409.

Solution

If the V40z has a LSI MegaRaid SCSI 320-4x adapter installed, the firmware version of that adapter needs to be higher than H409. The most current release is version LSI FW 413Z. If this version is not higher than H409, then the V40z is unable to boot via the Broadcom NetXtreme PXE boot with this card installed.
