Symptoms

You may experience one or more of the following symptoms when performing
device probes and/or operating system installations on Sun Fire[TM]
V60x/Sun Fire[TM] V65x servers.

- Device probe using Device Configuration Assistant (Solaris[TM] x86
Platform Edition) (DCA) software fails to find any SCSI disks.
- Device probe using DCA software finds the generic PCI RAID controller
found instead of the onboard dual-channel Adaptec UW320 SCSI controller.
- Linux installer fails to find any SCSI disks.

Cause

HostRAID functionality hides storage decives from an O/S that does not have the correct driver loaded at boot time.

Solution

BIOS steps to be performed

Perform the following steps in order:
1. Power on the platform with a console connection attached.
2. The black and white POST/BIOS screen will appear.
3. When you are promoted by the "Adaptec BIOS" banner, press the keys <CTRL> <A> at the same time.
4. Navigate to "Configure/View Host Adapter Settings"
(Menu system may differ depending on firmware revision of the Adaptec controller"
5. Turn OFF the "Adaptec HostRAID" function for BOTH channels.
6. Reboot the server.
The above actions will adjust the PCI signature of the Adaptec controller which will correctly allow Adaptec drivers to bind to this device.
The Adaptec HostRAID function is a Windows software RAID solution which presents multiple disk's as a single volume to a RAID specific driver.
As Solaris and Linux do not utilize this specific driver, volumes will appear missing until Adaptec HostRAID is disabled.

Additional Information
The Sun Fire V60x/V65x servers ship from the factory with the "Adaptec
HostRAID" function disabled.

This information is applicable to the Sun Jave Workstations W1100z and W2100z as they have the same Adaptec HostRAID support for Microsoft Windows.

If this function has been enabled, the installation for Solaris and Linux will abort.
