Cause

Dimm Failure on Othello+ System Controller CPU Board

Solution

In the Sun Fire[TM] 12K/Sun Fire[TM] 15K/Sun Fire[TM] E20K/Sun Fire[TM] E25K, the Othello+ System Controller supports a 1Gb memory configuration that consists of two 512 Mb Dimms
Each Dimm actually contains 2 banks of memory, one per side of the Dimm. In a successful boot of an Othello+ SC, you will see all 4 banks listed in the POST output:
Probing Memory Bank # 0 : 256 MB Probing Memory Bank # 1 : 256 MB Probing Memory Bank # 2 : 256 MB Probing Memory Bank # 3 : 256 MB
The two Dimms mount on top of one another on the Othello+ board. Memory Bank 0 & 1 reside on the lower Dimm, and Memory Bank 2 & 3 reside on the upper Dimm.
The DIMM listing in the failure is equivalent to the Memory Bank. Therefore, in the case of the example listed above, DIMM3 = Memory Bank 3 = the upper Dimm.
