Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
In the event of an unscheduled power outage that affects both of the redundant power supplies, the system may not accurately detect the power outage, and may not activate the non-volatile memory into battery powered refesh mode.
Impact
There is a low probability of losing the data normally preserved in battery-backed memory.
Changes
Contributing Factors
Pillar Axiom 600 Slammer with HEPS (High Efficiency Power Supply) had wrong firmware installed which was not detected in Oracle system test. Defective product was shipped to the field with incorrect firmware level of “A01” (should be “P07”).
Most of the impacted systems were contained and updated prior to shipment. Therefore only a small identified number of systems shipped to customers.
Affected customer list will be made available to Field Personnel identified by their Regional FCO Driver as being responsible for implementing this proactive remediation.
Cause
Sub-tier power supply manufacturer implemented a firmware change but failed to properly notify Oracle of this change and subsequently shipped product. This condition was not detected at Oracle or its supplier and a small number of defective product was shipped to customers. The supplier corrected this issue soon after and pulled back and reworked most of the impacted product. However a small number of identified systems escaped into the field which require this proactive remediation.
This firmware resides on the HEPS Sleeve and there are no field firmware upgrade options available other than the replacement of HEPS Sleeves (2 per system) on impacted systems.

Workaround
No workaround available – see Resolution section below.
Resolution
Anyone attempting to perform this activity are required to first view the 16 minute “HEPS Replacement Procedures TOI” which can be found via the below EDP link;
http://edp.oraclecorp.com/lms/faces/lms/edp/plancurrassignments.jspx?planid=173631
...or via the below iLearning URL;

In addition, please review the training addendum attachment titled "Attention Notice" which details additional screws not mentioned in the training video.
The field engineer should plan for a total of two hours on-site per impacted Slammer assembly, which includes time to reboot and test system.
After first verifying system is impacted per directions in the “how to” section below, for each impacted Slammer assembly proactively replace 2 HEPS Sleeves (p/n 1475-00109-32). If system verification cannot be performed, move forward with proactive replacement of HEPS Sleeves.
Important! Parts are not available through Services Logistics. Order sleeves via the attached Order Process document. Standard time to receive parts after submitting orders is 2 business days assuming order is placed before 1pm Pacific Time. For countries requiring completion of the Export section, plan for an additional 72 hours.
A Customer Ready document is available as an attachment to this knowledge article and should be provided to customers who request information about this issue in writing.
Identification of Affected Parts (how to)
Using the Check_HEPS_Firmware document attached to this knowledge article, first verify system is impacted by this incorrect firmware issue prior to ordering sleeves.
Hardware Remediation and Material Availability Details
HEPS Sleeves are in place and orderable via Oracle Operations. Do not attempt to order sleeves via standard process as this part is not a FRU and is not stocked by Service Logistics.
Comments
These HEPS Sleeves are not orderable from Logistics and the defectives are not to be returned – scrap locally.
