PreviouslyPublishedAs 241966 ***Checked for relevance on 19-Sept-2012*** Product Sun Fire X4140 Server Sun Fire X4150 Server Sun Fire X4240 Server Sun Fire X4250 Server Sun Fire X4440 Server Sun Fire X4450 Server Bug Id <SUNBUG: 6711571> Date of Preliminary Release 12-Sep-2008 DVD and/or backplane can be damaged during installation of the DVD (see details below). Affected X-Options: X6323A DVD-Writer/CD-Writer - USB Board Assembly, RoHS:Y SESX9DV1Z DVD-Writer/CD-Writer - USB Board Assembly, RoHS:Y Affected Parts: 541-2110 DVD-Writer/CD-Writer - USB Board Assembly, RoHS:Y ImpactThe DVD and/or backplane can be damaged during installation of the DVD.Contributing FactorsThis issue is most likely seen in two different scenarios:1) Systems built without DVD drives when installing a DVD drive for the first time. 2) When service occurs to replace a defective DVD. SymptomsDVD drives don't align with the disk backplane connector during installation of the DVD.Root CauseThe fit issue is caused by the pressure exerted on the disk backplanes by the HDD's and the Fillers - causing the disk backplane to "bow" at the center. An ECO is in process to add an alignment block to the back of the DVD assembly. New X-options and FRU's will be updated with this part as soon as possible. Corrective ActionWorkaround:To remove the pressure from the system disk backplanes, remove the HDD's and fillers before installing the DVD - this will allow the backplane to straighten and provide an accurate alignment of the DVD connector to the backplane. Resolution: An ECO is in process to add an alignment block to the back of the DVD assembly so that long term the above workaround is not needed. New X-options and FRU's will be updated with this part as soon as possible. CommentsFAB 265589 supersedes this FAB for the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220 and T5140/T5240 platforms.References: FAB: 234441 (highlights other known issues with the DVD) ECO: TBD For information about FAB documents, its release processes, implementation strategies and billing information, go to the following URL: In addition to the above you may email: Modification History Modifications since initial publication. 11-Sep-2009
