Issue Description:
If a prerequisite RAID software product is enabled through use of a
temporary or emergency license key on Sun StorEdge 9970/9980 Arrays,
HiCommand Device Manager will not recognize the program as being
present and initial discovery will fail with an error.
This issue affects any Sun StorEdge 9970/9980 Array which has the
following microcode levels (or lower):
Main: 21-02-45-00 (ECN DKC460I-M011)
SVP: 21-02-44
When this issue occurs, initial discovery will fail with this error:
'Unspecified Transport Error'
The issue usually arises when a customer runs a HiCommand Device
Manager trial and does not have permanent licenses for the prerequisite
RAID programs. These programs consist of:
. Web Console - Storage Navigator (PPid 421) - Always required
. Java API (PPid 423) - Always required
. SNMP API (PPid 422) - Always required
. LUN Manager (LUNM) (PPid 412) - required to configure fibre-channel
ports and configure and secure LUNs
. LUN Expansion (LUSE) (PPid 411) - required to create expanded LUNs
HiCommand Device Manager requires that certain software programs are
present and usable in the RAID microcode when Device Manager 2.x
controls a 9970/9980 array. Due to a microcode bug, certain program
products may not be recognized if they do not have a permanent license
key installed.
This issue is addressed by a microcode update. The following microcode
levels should be installed:
Main: 21-03-03-00/00
SVP: 21-03-03/00
For more information about these microcode versions, reference
Engineering Change Notice (ECN) DKC460I-M013 at
http://sejsc.ebay/HECN/m013p2.pdf .
The issue may be also be avoided by installing permanent license keys
for all of the RAID software programs mentioned above.
Implementation:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
Install microcode updates as follows for StorEdge 9970/9980 Arrays.
Main: 21-03-03-00/00
SVP: 21-03-03/00
Please follow the process for requesting SE99X0 software or microcode updates
at http://se9900.emea/scc/abi/reference23.html .
