Issue Description:
The Smart Card Reader which ships with Sun Blade 100, 1000, and 2000
systems requires a minimum level of Solaris plus patches for normal
operation. Some card readers shipped in Sun Blade 100 and 1000 systems
were originally not functional due to lack of software support. The
Smart Card Reader is now fully supported on all Sun Blade platforms.
The Smart Card Reader was not supported on Solaris versions prior to
Solaris 8 7/01. Sun Blade 100 and 1000 systems configured with Smart
Card Readers were shipped with Solaris versions earlier than S8 07/01
and the card readers were not supported at that time. In addition,
since the release of Solaris 8 7/01, a number of Smart Card Reader
issues have been addressed with Solaris patches.
The Solaris versions and patches required for proper Smart Card Reader
operation are shown below:
Solaris 8 7/01
--------------
108909-12 - Smart card administration GUI
109354-14 - CDE dtsession fixes
109695-03 - Opencard properties file
109887-13 - Smart card core fixes
110457-05 - Internal card reader fixes
Solaris 8 10/01

108909-12 - Smart card administration GUI
109354-14 - CDE dtsession fixes

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above mentioned
problem.
Use the following steps to make the Smart Card Reader fully functional
on platforms running Solaris 8:
1. Check the system's Solaris 8 release version:
% cat /etc/release |grep So
If the version is earlier than 7/01, upgrade to Solaris 8 7/01 or
later, using the instructions available at:
http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris
2. Check the system's installed patches:
% showrev -p | nawk '{ print $2 }' | sort
A list of sequential patch numbers is displayed.
3. Install patches as needed. Refer to the matrix provided above for
minimum patch levels.
