DOC: 816-3028-11: Sun(TM) XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator Installation Guide
Issue Description:
A specific batch of XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator boards was programmed
with incorrect FRU ID information. This information may be confusing
to field personnel when it is displayed with the 'fbconfig' command.
This is a serviceability issue which has no impact on product
functionality.
XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator boards with serial numbers between 000509
and 001698 are affected. These boards will display "Hardware Revision:
-01 rev05" instead of "Hardware Revision: -01 rev50" when probed with
the command 'fbconfig -dev ifb0 -prconf'. However, the revision level
will be correct on the physical label on the board (01RVF50).
To determine if one of these framebuffers is installed, run:
# fbconfig -list
Device-Filename Specific Config Program
--------------- -----------------------
/dev/fbs/ifb0 SUNWifb_config <---- may have an XVR-500
^^^^ ^
# fbconfig -dev ifb -prconf
--- Hardware Configuration for /dev/fbs/ifb0 ---
Type: XVR-500 (Expert3D-Lite compatible)
^^^^^^^
The Install Guide (816-3028-11) has a full example of the -prconf output.
To determine if a board falls into the affected range, check the Sun
part number/serial number label in the upper center section of the
bottom side of the board (side opposite of ASIC heatsinks). Serial
numbers between 000509 and 001698 are affected. The total affected
population is 927 boards.
This issue occurred because the PROM containing FRU ID information was
incorrectly programmed at the contract manufacturer, resulting in an
incorrect FRU ID hardware revision of 05, and a board correctly labeled
with revision 50.
The program and the programming file for the PROM have been updated at
the manufacturer. The resulting PROM image, including the correct FRU
ID hardware revision level, was verified by the contract manufacturer's
test department and by the OEM graphics board supplier on May 8, 2002.

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
Should any of this batch of XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator boards be
encountered in the field, disregard the hardware revision level
displayed with any online commands. Instead, read the hardware
revision from the physical label on the board as described above.

support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
