BugId: 4627344 - Sunfire15K platform specific begin/finish installation
scripts do not run.
Issue Description:
DVD installation of Solaris 8 Update 7 on Sun Fire 15K and Sun
Enterprise 10000 servers does not execute platform specific finish
scripts, which leads to loss of functionality for these systems. The
installation will complete and domains can be booted, but System
Controller or SSP functions will be impacted.
In the case of the F15K, the MAN network will not be configured on the
domain. This causes communication with the System Controller (SC) to
be lost when performing remote DR or when utilizing the SC as a
jumpstart server. An excessive number of error messages, such as
"dman0 link down", will be seen for the domain in the /var/adm/messages
file. Messages like "scman0 down" will be seen for the SC in
/var/adm/messages.
For the E10000 platform, DR operations between the SSP and the domain
will fail, and the SSP cannot be used as a jumpstart server. Messages
will flood the netcon window from both netcon_server on the SSP and the
virtual console daemon (cvcd) on the domain. This makes it impossible
to maintain a netcon session with the domain.
WARNING: cvcd host daemon: request for connection release!
WARNING: cvcd host daemon: connection refused! connection request from
illegalhost
When this problem occurs, the Solaris 8 U7 DVD installation completes
without creating the following files:
E10000 domain: /etc/ssphostname
F15K domain: /etc/hostname.dman0
In addition, the correct entries are not added to /etc/netmasks. This
will impact communication between the domain and the SC on F15K systems.
The Solaris 8 DVD installation uses the "WebStart Installation" script
to drive the installation. This "Webstart" script fails to call the
"suninstall" script but instead executes the "disk0_install" script.
The "suninstall" script normally runs a set of platform specific
installation scripts known as "Solstart". These scripts are utilized
to configure SSP information for an E10000 domain and MAN network
information for a Sun Fire 15K domain.
Manual intervention is required to create files and edit existing files
with the required data. See the Corrective Action below.
Implementation:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
---
---
| | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
---
---
| X | REACTIVE (As Required)

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
Sun Fire 15K
------------
After installing Solaris 8 Update 7 from DVD, follow the steps below to
configure a MAN network on the Sun Fire 15K domain.
1. Log into the domain as superuser.
2. Type:
domain_id:# ndd -get /dev/dman man_get_hostinfo
The following is an example of the output displayed.
manc_magic = 0x4d414e43
manc_version = 01
manc_csum = 0x0
manc_ip_type = AF_INET
manc_dom_ipaddr = 10.1.1.3
manc_dom_ip_netmask = 255.255.255.224
manc_dom_ip_netnum = 10.1.1.0
manc_sc_ipaddr = 10.1.1.1
manc_dom_eaddr = 0:0:be:a8:48:26
manc_sc_eaddr = 8:0:20:f9:e4:54
manc_iob_bitmap = 0x400 io boards = 10.1,
manc_golden_iob = 10
3. Add or edit a network-i1 entry to /etc/netmasks, using the following
format:
For example:
10.1.1.0 255.255.255.224
4. Create an /etc/hostname.dman0 file with the following content:
netmask + broadcast + private up
For example:
10.1.1.3 netmask + broadcast + private up
5. Ensure that the 'manc_sc_ipaddr' IP address matches the entry in
/etc/syslog.conf
domain_id:# cat /etc/syslog.conf
...
*.notice @10.1.1.1
If not, edit the /etc/syslog.conf file. Save and exit.
6. Type:
domain_id:# ifconfig dman0 plumb
domain_id:# ifconfig dman0 netmask + broadcast +
private up
For example:
domain_id:# ifconfig dman0 plumb
domain_id:# ifconfig dman0 10.1.1.3 netmask + broadcast + private up
Sun Enterprise 10000
--------------------
After installing Solaris 8 Update 7 from DVD, create/edit the following files
for the E10000 domain:
/etc/ssphostname (create and add entry for the SSP host name)
/etc/hosts (add entry for SSP IP address)

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
