Issue Description:
When a Seagate ST320011A (HDD) disk drive is installed into the Sun
Blade 100 drive tray, the HDD will unseat the hard drive tray latch
cover (small Sun purple plastic part). This problem has negligible
impact to the customer. Operation of the system is unaffected and
downtime will not occur as a result of this issue.
This is a mechanical fit issue that will only be encountered when
installing a Seagate ST320011A HDD into the Sun Blade 100. The only
affected drive model number is ST320011A, which was added to the
Approved Vendor List (AVL) in January 2002. Any Sun Blade 100
manufactured prior to February 2002 could experience this problem.
The root cause of this problem is that the Seagate ST320011A drive is
slightly larger than the space allotted in the Sun Blade 100 hard drive
tray. The case of the drive pushes against the latch cover prongs and
dislodges the latch cover.
--
/ | <- There are 3 of these prongs on the disk tray latch cover.
| | Please note that the new latch cover prongs were shortened
| | by about 1-1.5mm.
The problem has been corrected by modifying the latch cover assembly
and including a new latch cover in all Seagate ST320011A HDD FRU's and
X-options. Systems manufactured with the new part have a "B" on the
system EZ label. Previous system revisions will have an "A" on the EZ
label.
Sun Blade 100 CD ROM installation documentation has also been modified
to contain information regarding the new latch cover.

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
When installing a Seagate ST320011A HDD into a Sun Blade 100 system:
1) If the system EZ Label shows the letter "B", just install the drive.
2) If the system EZ Label shows the letter "A", install the new
latch cover part provided with the drive FRU before installing the
drive. Follow instructions provided in the Sun Blade 100 CD-ROM or
DVD-ROM and Hard Disk Drive Installation Guide.
Comments:
None.
