Issue Description:
Some StorEdge Network FC Switch-16 units were assembled and shipped
from the vendor with their mounting brackets reversed. This could
potentially result in these switches being installed backwards in the
72-inch StorEdge Expansion Cabinet. This improper installation may
cause the inlet temperature of the switch to exceed its recommended
range and this could affect the performance and the life of the
switch. In addition, the connecting fibre cables might be damaged by
hitting the rear cabinet door and may require replacement.

There are 4 mounting brackets for each switch, with 2 in the front and
2 in the back of the switch. Please note the following descriptions of
the front-end and rear-end brackets and the mounting procedures for the
switch:

  Front-end bracket:
  ------------------

  . The front-end brackets are L-shaped.
. They should be mounted on the side of the switch closest to the air
    intake perforation pattern.
. Both brackets should be mounted with the large chamfer (bevel) at the
    top.
. The mounting holes are countersunk for flat head screws.

  Rear-end brackets:
  ------------------

. The rear-end brackets are flat, rectangular-shaped, and have small
    chamfers on all 4 corners.
. They should be mounted on the side of the switch closest to the GBIC's.
. The mounting hole are countersunk for flat head screws.

Note: Please refer to the photo's referenced in the Corrective Action
showing the proper bracket orientation for both front-end and
        rear-end.

The following drawing shows the brackets installed incorrectly
(first drawing) and correctly (second drawing) on the switch.

      INCORRECTLY INSTALLED CORRECTLY INSTALLED

The instructions given in the "Sun StorEdge Network FC Switch-8 and
Switch-16 Installation and Configuration Guide", P/N 806-6922-10, are
correct if the brackets are mounted correctly on the switch. Since the
pre-installed brackets on the switch may not be properly mounted, the
Field should use the above drawings as a reference to remove the
brackets from the switch and install them correctly before following
the instructions in the manual. The guideline in the manual states
"From the front of the cabinet, slide the first switch into the lowest
of the mounting rails. The GBIC side goes toward the back of the
rack." Incorrectly mounted brackets will hit the cabinet's front
mounting rails and not allow the switch to enter the cabinet.

This problem has occurred because the vendor's (Qlogic) assembly
instructions for the switch were incorrect. The vendor has been
notified of the problem and digital photo's have been sent showing the
correct assembly. An ECO will be processed to add a drawing to the
product specification, showing the correct orientation of the mounting
brackets.

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

Please adhere to the following guidelines to fix the problem:

  1. If the mounting brackets for the StorEdge Network FC Switch-16 are
found to be incorrectly mounted, follow the instructions below and
the photos shown at the following URLs.

        http://sdpsweb.ebay/FIN_FCO/FIN/FINI0711-1_dir/frontbrkt.htm
        http://sdpsweb.ebay/FIN_FCO/FIN/FINI0711-1_dir/rearbrkt.htm

  2. Disassemble the brackets by removing the screws, two per bracket.

  3. Mount the two flat brackets closest to the GBIC end of the switch.
The countersunk holes on the brackets must face outwards.

  4. The L-shaped brackets are to be mounted closest to the fan end
of the switch. Orient the L-shaped bracket so that the flange
with the open slots is pointing away from the switch. These
slots are used to mount the switch to the cabinet. Using the
existing screws, mount the brackets to the switch.

  5. Install the switch with the correctly mounted brackets into the
     72-inch rack.
