Issue Description:
A customer using a Sun 21" Premium Monitor with a reworked SunRay 1
(380-0428-01) may experience vertical distortion lines or shadows in
the displayed video when viewed against a white backdrop such as with
an open shelltool window. Exact numbers of 21" monitors that were
affected by this problem in not known at this time.
This effect is known as "moire" and can be corrected by the customer
using the monitor's simple on-screen menu controls to cancel out the
distortion.
The problem occurs when the 380-0299 (Corona) units are returned for
rework to the 380-0428 part number. The repair vendor does the video
filter rework at the same time they are fixing the power supply problem.
Unfortunately, Sun has provided our repair vendor a wrong capacitor
value for a video rework filter fix involving 6 caps in the SunRay 1.
The supply vendor was using the correct capacitor so there is no issue
with manufacturing shipped SunRay 1 systems, only with repaired FRUs.
The ECO WO_20893 has been approved on May 29, 2001 to replace all the
wrong value capacitors with the right capacitors.
The customer should use cable adapter X471A 13W3 (P/N 530-2917) and
HD15 video connector certified for use on Sunray or a high quality
coax-type HD15 cable to insure proper signal conditions from the
Sunray to the monitor.

Corrective Action:
An Authorized Enterprise Field Service Representitive may avoid the
above mentioned problems by following the guideline as shown below.
Customers using a Sun 21" Premium monitor and experiencing a "moire"
effect should do the following:
Locate the users manual for the monitor displaying the symptom. Check
to see how to enable the "moire cancel" adjustment from the on-screen
menu. Once enabled, adjust the moire cancel until the distorion is
minimized or disappears completely.
Reference Users Manual:
875-1859-01 Section: Using the Screen on Screen Display - Page 12
875-1859-01 Section: Adjusting the Quality of the Picture (Screen) - Page 11
If this adjustment doesn't correct the moire effect, it may be
necessary to replace the SunRay 1 unit with a 380-0428-02.
