MANUAL: 806-1551-10 Netra t1 105 100 installation guide
Issue Description:
A problem has been identified with the Netra t1 model 100 and 105.
The problem reported is difficulty fitting the QFE card in a Netra
t1. However, upon further investigation, two separate problems
have been discovered.
Problem 1:
The PCI gasket design incorporates 'dimples' to ensure good contact
with the PCI card rear panel. However, an identified design weakness
means that it is possible, without due care, to incorrectly install the
PCI card with its bracket sitting on top of these 'dimples'. This has
the effect of pushing the PCI board out of alignment with the connector
slot on the chassis creating difficulties inserting two of the four
connectors.
Problem 2:
The second problem identified affects the molded hood variety of RJ45
connectors such as used on cable assembly P/N 530-1871-04. This
problem is caused by an interference fit between the connector
over-moldings and the Netra t1 chassis and lid. This problem can cause
the customer to be unable to plug in and or remove the RJ45 connector
to the QFE PCI (described above). A definitive list of cable part
numbers that should not be used is being developed.
These issues have been noted by various customers and are currently
being tracked by escalation 523439 and BugId 4294803.
================================================================
In this -2 update to FINI0544-1, the X1032A x-option has been
added on the X-Options Affected Section on the FIN. No update
needed on both the Problem Description or the Corrective Action.

Corrective Action:
Enterprise Customers installing or replacing a QFE PCI (X1034A) in an
existing Netra t1 model 100 or 105 may avoid the above mentioned QFE
PCI card and RJ45 cable fitting problem by following the recommendation
as shown below:
The recommended solution for Problem 1 is to follow the PCI
installation procedure as described below:
Recommended QFE PCI Card Installation
NOTE: Reference Docs: P/N 806-1551-10, Netra t1 105 100 installation
guide.
Step 1:
-------
a. Remove the system from the shipping package. OR
b. Remove the system from the rack if already in use.
Step 2:
-------
a. Remove the Flapjack top cover by removing the screw at the rear
and center of the unit.
b. Slide top cover back and lift off.
Step 3:
-------
a. Remove processor baffle located in the rear center of the unit by
lifting out.
Step 4:
-------
a. If a PCI card is already installed, unclip the slide retainer from
the edge of the card.
b. Remove the mid baffle by removing the screw at rear of unit and push
towards the drive bays and lift out of unit.
Step 5
------
a. Remove blanking panel or existing PCI card.
Note: Problem 1 must be addressed first to ensure successful RJ45 cable
installation for Problem 2.
Re-Installing PCI card or new PCI card.
=======================================
Please note the key to a successful PCI installation is dependent upon
the PCI card fitting into the PCI connector and remaining in a
horizontal plane. Great care must be exercised to ensure that the PCI
card does not lift and rest on the PCI gasket dimples which is located
at the rear PCI opening.
Note: A photo reference of the PCI gasket dimples is available as an
attachment on the EDISTserver. For access, follow the footnote
instructions shown below under Supporting Documents
Step 6
------
a. A visual inspection should be made to ensure the PCI is installed
correctly.
Step 7
------
a. Re-insert the mid baffle with the slide member attached, and secure with
the rear screw.
b. Push the slide of the baffle forward to hold the corner of the PCI in
place.
Step 8
------
a. Re-install the processor baffle, ensuring tabs in corners locate under
rear I/O card.
Step 9
------
Make another visual inspection of the installation and make sure the
horizontal alignment of the PCI card has been maintained and that no
cables have been trapped.
Step 10
-------
Reinstall the lid and secure screw at the rear of the unit.
Now proceed to the recommended cable installation.
--------------------------------------------------
Installing the PCI card as described in the above steps are the tested
corrective action to provide a solution to Problem 2 is the use of a
shielded RJ45 connector cable assembly P/N 530-2093-01.
This cable has been tested at Sun and can be installed and removed from the
current shipping rev Netra t1 105 and 100 with a QFE PCI card installed.
As there is limited space for fingertips within a Netra t form-factor,
it is advised that the left most port RJ45 connector must be installed
first, followed by adjacent ports to the right.
The recommended solution for Problem 2 is to use the shielded RJ45
cable assembly as shown below:
