Issue Description:
It has been discovered that the cover for the E10000 system board is
missing a clearance hole for a centerplane guidepin. This is ONLY
needed for slot 07 on the UE10000, all other slots do not require this
clearance hole.
Attempting to install a system board with a defective cover will cause
mechanical interference between the system board and the centerplane
guidepin, resulting in the system board being unable to be installed in
slot 07 of the UE10000 chassis. For any other slot there is no
interference.
The defective covers have been traced to one defective lot from the
sheet metal supplier. Inspections are now in place at the supplier to
prevent from happening again but, there remains 47 covers unaccounted
for, which are assumed to be in the field. BSD Quality Engineering
will monitor all cover returns in an attempt to account for the
outstanding 47 covers.
Corrective Action:
Prior to installing any system board into slot 07, verify that there is
a clearance hole (approx. 3/8" or 8mm) located in the lower rear of the
system board module, below where the connector will engage the
centerplane. It is the only hole located on the rear of the system
board module.
The problem only exists for installation of a system board in slot 07,
all other slots (00-06, 08-15) are NOT affected.
If reconfiguring an UE10000 and a system board is to be moved from some
other slot to slot 07, verify the hole is present prior to installing.
Comments:
For existing systems, if configurations are not changed, or if
a system board is inspected prior to installation in slot 07,
there will be no adverse effect.
If a failed system board in slot 07 is to be replaced by an FRU, and
the FRU happens to have a defective cover, the cover of the failed
system board can be exchanged with the defective cover on the FRU and
the replacement completed. Return the defective cover with the failed
system board and it will be upgraded at the BSD repair depot. Be sure
to follow proper ESD procedures when exchanging the covers.
SunService Logistics has introduced an additional new part number,
F501-4786-01 which does not have the defective covers associated with
it.
