Issue Description:
Sun Fire V65x Servers with certain power supply units may experience
a system power down.
If this issue occurs, systems operating in a non-redundant power supply
configuration (only one power supply module installed in the power supply
cage) would experience an immediate system power down. Systems operating
in a redundant power supply configuration will continue normal operation,
and the affected power supply will be reported by the LED on the back of
the supply as being either off or amber in color. In addition, the system
front panel status LEDs, and the Server Management software will also
report the failed power supply.
This issue is described in an Intel Technical Advisory TA-0674-5 available
via the below (internal only) URL;
http://sdpsweb.central/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0238-1_Dir/Grizzly-PSU_Intel-Advisory.pd
f
Note: Sun only has authorization to distribute the Intel Advisory internally.
The affected PSUs will have the Intel part numbers of:
A76009-006 (or prior revisions)
When a power supply fails, the LED status light on the back of supply will
be off or will be amber in color. A normal functioning power supply will
have a green LED illuminated at the back of it.
The potential to fail is during sustained, powered-on operation due to an issue
in the primary PFC diode in the power supply module which may also cause a fuse
to blow.
This issue was addressed in Sun manufacturing via ECO# WO_28669 by releasing
Sun part number 370-6048-03, and by Sun Services via LEAP# 2526, released on
March 5, 2004.
Implementation:

Replacement Time Estimate:
1.0 hours
Special Considerations:
This FCO does not authorize proactive replacements. Multiple issues
with this power supply at one customer site should be escalated to
ensure proper handling of the customer situation.
Corrective Action:
Upon failure replace only the failed power supply as follows:
- replace 370-6048-02 (or below) with 370-6048-03 (or above)
