Issue Description:
Fan issues may occur on SunFire B1600 (B100s and B100x Server blades) where the fan
speed falls below critical threshold values.
All three of the Sun Blade B100s blades and the two Sun Blade B100x blades are
susceptible to this failure mode as the CPU cooling fan is a common part. The system
detects the fan speed falling below the critical threshold (70% of maximum)
resulting in a warning message being displayed. There are no specific
user/environmental conditions which contribute to this issue.
The following error message will be displayed on the Sun Fire B1600 shelf System
Controller console and in the Console Log when a fan has this issue:
Nov 19 08:34:28: CRITICAL: S12: CPU Fan speed below critical threshold.
Use the "show environment -v" command at the Sun Fire B1600 Shelf System
Controller Prompt to identify affected components.
The following is an example that shows affected blades:

NOTE: The fans on blades S3, S8, S13 and S15 are shown above as faulty.
This issue was root caused as a result of damage within the bearing mechanism.
However, the fan vendor has not identified what causes the accelerated wearout and
the actual cause remains unidentified.
It has been decided to qualify a fan from another supplier.
The CPU fans in the Sun Blade B100s and B100x have been replaced with a fan
from the new supplier.
The corrective action was made available by Sun manufacturing
via ECOs: WO_28422 and WO_28723.
The corrective action was made available by Sun Services
via LEAPs: 2585, 2598, 2598.

*** Phased Release Schedule ***
*******************************
This FCO will have a timezone phased release based on material
readiness as follows:
EMEA July 16, 2004
US/Canada/Ltn Amer July 30, 2004
APAC/Japan August 20, 2004
The above dates represent when each timezone has determined
they will be materially ready to support this FCO.
NOTE: This FCO does not authorize the proactive replacement of hardware.
For customers who request proactive relacement, please address this
through the account teams and the CIC program. Reference the following

Corrective Action:
Remove the affected Blade and replace with a new part as listed below:
for Sun Blade B100s:
- replace 540-5078-06 (or less) with 540-5078-07 (or above)
- replace 540-5079-06 (or less) with 540-5079-07 (or above)
- replace 540-5454-06 (or less) with 540-5454-07 (or above)
for Sun Blade B100x:
- replace 540-5548-03 (or less) with 540-5860-04 (or above)
- replace 540-5549-03 (or less) with 540-5860-04 (or above)
- replace 540-5860-03 (or less) with 540-5860-04 (or above)
For B100x, parts 540-5548 and 540-5549 (Scimitar 1P) blades, memory DIMMs need to be
removed from the affected blade and inserted into the replacement FRU 540-5860.
These blades have customer replaceable memory and the FRU is the blade without
memory.
In the case of the B100s (Stiletto) blade, the FRU includes the memory as this is
not customer replaceble.
The procedure for removing a blade from the chassis (B100s and B100x) is documented
in the Blade System Chassis Administration Guide. The latest version is
817-3432-12.
The procedure for removing the memory on the B100x can be found in the 1P DIMM
Replacement Guide (817-2577-10). These manuals can be found at the following URL:

Comments:
When returning the Sun Blade B100x, it should be returned as F540-5860. This
is the normal practice for the Sun Blade B100x.
