Issue Description:
On Sun Fire 12K and 15K systems, SMS may shut off the system controller
board, causing a failover to the redundant system controller board, which
causes a loss of redundancy.
The issue is limited to five date codes of the 3.3V DC-DC converter module,
located on the SPARCengine CP1500 CPU board. The affected date codes are
0308, 0311, 0314, 0315, and 0327.
Root cause has determined the FAB vendor deployed inadequate process
control. This resulted in functional failures due to thin copper plating in
random vias which results in via cracking on the 3.3V DC-DC converter
circuitry. This vendor has been disqualified and Sun is now using a
different FAB vendor.
Corrective action was made available in Manufacturing via Worldwide
StopShip/Purge P001-20149.A8 as of August 12, 2003. Corrective action was
made available in Sun Services via DPCO# 402 as of September 3, 2003.
A Customer List has been provided to aid the field in locating and
implementing this corrective action on affected customers. Reference the
below Internal Only URL for this Customer List;

This FCO is to be implemented proactively in EMEA only!
Implementation:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
---
---
| X | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
---
---
| | UPON FAILURE
---
Replacement Time Estimate:
.25 hours
Special Considerations:
Only EMEA is to implement this Proactively using the above supplied customer
list. All other Timezones were previously directed to use the CIC process
as needed.
Corrective Action:
Proactively replace any 501-5473-13 listed in the above Customer List, and
located in EMEA, with a 501-5473-13 (or above).
All boards, located in field stocking locations, have been screened for this
issue.
Please reference the Sun Fire 15K/12K Systems Service Manual for replacement
procedures (Sun P/N 806-3512-12) which can be found at the below URL;
