Issue Description:
In a busy network with a large amount of network traffic, the System Service
Processor (SSP) to control board connection can be slowed since the SSP to
control board connection for the E10000 is via the ethernet and the same busy
network. The SSP is a SPARCstation 5 that acts as a console and monitors the
E10000 system. Consequently, the control board resets frequently. Domain
bring-ups may fail, SNMP access may fail, and/or console timeouts may occur.
E10000 systems shipped after Sep/12/97 have a hub provided with the system
so the SSP to control board connection can be made via a private ethernet
network that will not experience the performance degradation associated
with a busy network. E10000 systems shipped prior to this date were not
provided with a hub. This hub is only required in very high traffic
(ethernet) installations.
Implementation:

Replacement Time Estimate:
1 hour
Special Considerations:
If the SSP and E10000 control board are on an ethernet used by other devices,
and the system experiences control board resets, a private SSP to control board
ethernet connection should be implemented.
Systems with a private ethernet connection between the control board and SSP
are not affected.
Only customers listed in the Customer List file are eligible for this program.
This file is available from Edist following the FCO Supporting Documents link.
Corrective Action:
Install the private hub upgrade according to the Hub Upgrade Manual(805-3446-10)
and install the SSP patch# 105376-01.
The following hardware is required for EACH control board in the E10000 System;
540-3584-01 FRU ASSY,HUB,TP4,10BASE-T
and 530-2093-01 CABLE ASSY,SHLD,TP-ETHERNET,RJ45-RJ45
or 530-1871-04 CABLE ASSY,RJ45-RJ45,4M,CAT5
One QFE SBus Card is required for each SSP connected to the E10000 system;
605-1597-01 ASSY, QUAD-FASTETHERNET 2.0 SBus Card, W/SW (X1049A)

i) In case of Mandatory FCOs, SunService will attempt to contact all known
customers to recommend the part upgrade.
ii) For controlled proactive swap FCOs, SunService mission critical support
teams will initiate proactive swap efforts for their respective accounts,
as required.
iii) For Replace upon Failure FCOs, SunService partners will implement the
necessary corrective actions as and when they are required.
