Purpose/Scope: This document describes which troubleshooting steps to take when trying to resolve problems related to logging into a Sun Blade 6000 or Sun Blade 6048 Modular system, and accessing the individual Sun Blade Server modules. It does not show how to login to individual blade servers - that's covered in DocID 1019148.1 "How to login to Sun Blade Server Modules in a Sun Blade 6000/6048 Modular System" Problems related to setting up user accounts is out of the scope of this document. in debugging a specific issue. When possible, diagnostic tools are included in the document
to assist in troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting DetailsSteps to FollowPlease validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step. Step 1. Verify the power is good This can be done either locally to the chassis, or remotely via ILOM commands. To do so remotely, you will need to connect to the CMM which is covered in Step 3. See DocID: 1019382.1 How to verify power on a Sun Blade[tm] 6000 and Sun Blade[tm] 6048 Modular System Step 2: Verify the cabling There are a number of different connection methods, and a number of cables and ports to which to connect. See DocID: 1019307.1 How to verify proper cabling on a Sun Blade[tm] 6000 and Sun Blade[tm] 6048 Modular System Step 3. Verify you can connect through the serial port You will not be able to connect over a network if the IP address, MAC address, routing, etc is not setup on the CMM, but you should always be able to connect over the serial connection. See DocID: 1019314.1 How to connect to the CMM ILOM using a Serial Connection on a Sun Blade 6000/6048 NOTE: If a serial connection fails, resetting the CMM as outlined in Step 7 may help Step 4. Verify there are no fault or warning LEDs Again, this can be done either locally to the chassis, or remotely See DocID: 1019321.1 How to check Fault/warning LEDs on Blade 6000/6048 Systems Step 5. Verify the Chassis Monitoring Module (CMM) network configuration Once you have a serial connection, you can both check and setup the CMM network See DocID: 1019330.1 How to verify CMM network configuration on a SunBlade6000/6048 system Step 6. Verify the external network Refer to: DocID: 1017986.1 Can't connect to server DocID: 1005533.1 How to verify network connectivity on an X64 platform Step 7. At this point, if you have validated that each troubleshooting step above is true for your environment, and the issue still exists, further in-depth troubleshooting is required.
