Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VTL Plus Storage Appliance - Version: 2.0 - Build 1590d to 2.0 - Build 1656 - Release: 2.0 to 2.0
Sun StorageTek VTL Prime System - Version: 1.0 - Build 1813 to 1.1 - Build 2076   [Release: 1.0 to 1.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Starting with VTL+ 2.0 (Build 1590), the auto config backup utility was removed from the VTL Console. The following manual VTL config backup procedure is recommended to be done periodically, so that a manual restore can be done in the event of a DR situation.

Solution

NOTE: Root access is required.

1.
Run the following commands two commands to update the .tape_lite_summary, .tape_lite_summary2 and .disk_space_summmary in the /tmp directory:

#echo "print_all_tape_lite HOSTNAME" >/tmp/.falconstor //generate the /tmp/.tape_lite_summary and .tape_lite_summary2 files

#echo "print_disk_space HOSTNAME" >/tmp/.falconstor //generate the /tmp/.disk_space_summary file

2. Run Xray and store in safe location (not on VTL server)

3. tar and offload the following directories where HOSTNAME is the name of the VTL node and DATE is the current date:
tar -cvf /export/home/etc_HOSTNAME_DATE.tgz /usr/local/vtl/etc/

tar -cvf /export/home/tmp_HOSTNAME_DATE.tgz /tmp
(Note: the tape_lite_summary files are ".dot" files so make sure you include these in the tar command)

NOTE: The "manual" VTL config restore process is to engage Oracle-Sun support who will then engage FalconStor support after the Solaris OS and VTL packages are reloaded.
