GoalHow to remove and replace a T5120/T5220 Graphics CardSolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONSWHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner. DELIVERY REQUIREMENT: Schedule with customer within contractual terms. TIME ESTIMATE: 1 Hour FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Graphics Card WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0"), and after the system has shut down Switch from the system console to the -> prompt by typing the #. (Hash Period) key sequence. At the -> prompt, type the stop /SYS command. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: *** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge 1. Disconnect all power cables 2. Remove the Top Cover -Unlatch the fan module door by pulling the release tabs back to release the door -Press the top cover release button and slide the top cover to the rear about a 0.5 inch -Lift up and remove the cover Removal: 1. Locate the Graphics card that you want to remove. Note its corresponding riser board. 2. If the graphics card is in a 2u T5220 Riser Board, note the connector of that Riser Board to which the Graphics Card is installed. 3. Unplug all cables from the card. Note the location of all cables for reinstallation later. 4. Remove the riser board. 5. Carefully remove the Graphics card from the riser board connector. 6. Place the Graphics card on an antistatic mat. Installation: 1. Unpack the replacement Graphics card and place it on an antistatic mat. 2. Locate the proper Graphics slot for the card you are replacing. 3. Remove the Graphics riser board. 4. Insert the Graphics card into the correct slot on the riser board. 5. Replace the Graphics riser. 6. Install the top cover. 7. Slide the server into the rack. 8. Connect any data cables required to the Graphics card. Route data cables through the cable management arm. 9. Connect the power supplies. Note: As soon as the power cords are connected, standby power is applied. Depending on how the firmware is configured, the system might boot at this time. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Power on the server and restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
