FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Two working fans are required to provide adequate cooling for the server. If a fan fails, replace it as soon as possible to ensure system availability.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : N/A (hot-swappable)

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove the faulty fan:

1. Gain access to the top of the server where the fan door is located. If it is necessary to slide the server forward, ensure adequate cable management is in place so that cables do not become disconnected or damaged.

2. Unpackage the replacement fan and place it near the server

3. Lift the latch on the top of the fan door, and lift the fan door open.

4. Identify the faulty fan. A lighted LED on the top of a fan indicates that the fan is faulty.

5. Pull up on the fan strap handle until the fan is removed from the fan bay.

Install Replacement Fan:

1. With the fan door held open, slide the replacement fan into the fan bay.

2. Apply firm pressure to fully seat the fan.

3. Verify that the LED on the replaced fan and the Top fan, Service Required, and Locator LEDs are not lit.

4. Close the fan door.

5. If necessary, return the server to its normal position in the rack.
