GoalHow to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire T2000 PCI CardSolution*DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS*WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform. DELIVERY REQUIREMENT: A system outage will need to be negotiated with the customer, within service contract hours. *FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS* PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T2000 PCI Card replacement WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 5"), and after the system has shut down run the following commands from the ALOM: 1. setlocator on 2. poweroff WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: 1. Shutting the System Down 2. Extending the Server to the Maintenance Position 3. Performing Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures 4. Disconnecting Power From the Server 5. Removing the Top Cover 6. Removing the Front Bezel and Top Front Cover 7. Unpackage the replacement PCI-Express or PCI-X card and place it on an antistatic mat. 8. Locate the proper socket for the card you are replacing. 9. Rotate the PCI hold-down bracket 90 degrees so you can install the card. 10. Insert the card into the socket. 11. Rotate the PCI hold-down bracket 90 degrees to lock the card in place. 12. Place the top front cover on the chassis. 13. Slide the front top cover forward until it snaps into place 14. Position the bezel on the front of the chassis and snap it into place. 15. Open the fan door. 16. Tighten the captive screw to secure the front bezel to the chassis. 17. Place the top cover on the chassis. 18. Set the cover down so that it hangs over the rear of the server by about an inch. 19. Slide the cover forward until it latches into place. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Custemer restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
