Goal

Need some advice if the rail terminator, rail safety cap, geared tack, geared track stop, power rail/signal strip can be reused.

Solution

Yes, all the items noted, except the track stops, can and should be reused. The stops are designed for a single use. Make sure you have a few extra geared tracks available in case one breaks. There are 4 extra tracks included with every install.

Note:
In addition to the specific parts discussed in this KB, all hardware should be retained and reused.

Please take this opportunity to install the new-style track stops. Do not bother to order old-style replacement stops. See reprint of earlier notice below:

Specific Instructions:

Verify the total number of 4EF and 5EF machines (SL8500s) that are being targeted for intermediate track stop implementation.
Calculate how many track stop kits will need to be ordered. A 5EF machine will need 6 track stop kits. A 4EF machine will require 5 track stop kits. All other machine types will only require 1 track stop kit. For example, if you have three 5EF machines you would need to place a FRU order for 18 track stop kits. The part number you need to order is, #418626901, per the normal FRU ordering process.
Schedule downtime for those specific machines with the customer.
Place another order for the Intermediate Track Stop Tool kit a few days in advance (4 to 5 days recommended) of the scheduled retrofit activity. You will need this tool kit to install the track stops you will receive in step #2. The part number for the track stop tool kit is, #418644901. Note that you will still be required to use the Rack Alignment Tool (bot), part number, #419894002, to check the installation of the track stops. Make sure that you have placed orders for both tools, with enough lead time for delivery, so that they are on hand for the retrofit.
